Payment Method Comparison Table for Nepal Freelancers

A single reference table for every payment method a Nepali freelancer is likely to be offered by a client or a platform — what actually works, what doesn't, and why. We update this page as availability and rules change; if you're reading this months after the "last reviewed" date above, double-check anything time-sensitive directly with the provider.

Why this table looks different from a lot of "payment methods" listicles

A lot of generic "how to get paid internationally" content is written for a global audience and lists five or six platforms without checking which of them actually operate in a specific country. For Nepal specifically, the honest, current answer is a short list — and knowing what to rule out quickly (PayPal, Stripe, Wise for receiving) saves you time you'd otherwise spend filling out a signup form that eventually rejects your country.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use PayPal at all if I'm based in Nepal?

Not for receiving payments into a Nepal-based account. PayPal does not support payouts to Nepal, so it isn't workable as your primary receiving method. If you already have a PayPal balance from before, or access to an account registered in another country, that's a different situation outside the scope of this page — but starting fresh, don't plan around PayPal.

What about a Payoneer business account instead of an individual one?

Payoneer supports both individual and registered-business account types. Most freelancers starting out use the individual type; if you later register a company, you may want to look into whether a business-type account changes your fee structure or documentation requirements — check directly with Payoneer, since we haven't independently verified how the two account types compare on fees.

Is a bank wire ever cheaper than Payoneer?

It can be, especially for a single large payment, since Payoneer's percentage-based withdrawal fee scales with the amount while a bank wire's cost structure is different. We're not quoting exact numbers here because both fee schedules change — if you're deciding between the two for a specific amount, it's worth checking current fees on both sides before committing. See the Payoneer guide and bank wire guide for the tradeoffs beyond just fees (paperwork risk, speed, frequency of use).

Why isn't there a Wise guide on this site?

Because, as far as we've been able to confirm, Wise does not currently offer Nepal-resident receiving accounts — a dedicated setup guide would be describing something you can't actually do. We'd rather leave it out and tell you plainly than publish a guide for a rail that doesn't work here. If that changes, we'll add a guide.

Does this page get updated?

Yes — this is meant to be the kind of page that's more useful kept current than written once and left alone, since platform availability and bank practice for Nepal specifically change more often, and get less attention from global "how to get paid" content, than for larger markets. Check the "last reviewed" date at the top before treating anything time-sensitive as current.
